Well FINALLY, here she is! My Repainted Rogers 1890 4-6-0! *YAY*
For the most part its done though recently I realized how much MORE work needs to be done.
Obviously I have yet to paint the Pilot/Cowcatcher, I just haven't felt like doing it as of late.
But yeah, I found out that if you want to add decals and stuff the paint needs to be gloss, and I painted mine in flat colors!!! *crap*
But I could spray in a gloss clear coat, ad the decals, spray another gloss clear, then a final flat clear coat. I may have complicated the process a little but it still can be done.
And yes, the wheels need painting to, I know. But I'll focus on that more when I know where I'll be living in the future.
Any way I thought you guys would enjoy it, so....ENJOY!
NOTE: please comment, DO NOT FAVE unless you comment!
Wow that's turning out to look great! I really like the blue and the gold it really helps make the engine stand out. But anyways, the locomotive is coming a long great, keep it up!
You know lately I've been thinking of converting some of my 4-6-0's to DCC and installing a sound decoder with some custom sounds of the locomotive I recorded. But the way the engine works may make the DCC a little complicated unless I either change the motor, or put something under it to stop the current transfer from the motor to the chassis and wheels then to the tracks. I don't know it just sound like it would be bun, also I thought of installing a smoke generator.
I'm not sure if its even possible to instal a smoke unit. But If you want to convert them to DCC you'll HAVE to remotor them anyway. If the motor draws more than 1.5 amps in a stall then you'll burn out the decoder! I tensted mine and it drew nearly 2 AMPS in a stall!
As for isolating the motor, using a thin peice of stireen plastic or even electrical tape can separate it fromthe motor though you'll need a plastic screw instead of the one it already has because that one is metal. But all you'll have to do is solder a wire to the frame that leads to the decoder. then powder leads go from the decoder to the motor. Then the "exit" wires from the motor to the decoder and then from the decoder to the tender since it has electrical pick up. Well it goes something like that.

I'll have to look at my engine some more first, I know, I'll have to put the decoder and sound stuff in the tender, but if I were to install a smoke unit I would need to get rid of the weight, or at least find a way to shrink it a bit. I would need to remove the stack and cut a hole through then permanently attach the smoke stack, then find a way to re attach the head light that used the weight to hold it up... I've also thought of just finding a really small N scale generator and hiding it in the stack it's self. then just wiring it up to the motor.
It may be easier to just forget about the smoke as well. It might not be worth the trouble of destroying my locomotive to install a smoke unit that will probably look terrible anyways. The smaller ones usually don't give out good smoke.
But like I said I'm trying to look more into installing a decoder first, I've found some decent ones so far. But in the event that I do need to remotor, how exactly would I go about that with this locomotive, I usually don't remotor my locomotives. Most of my locomotive don't work very well thanks to the mistreatment I gave them in my childhood. lol
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!

I like how its turning out.
If it was me I would paint it mainly black, gold and red. Those are good colors for a steam loco, don't you think?

Any plans on adding a view block around the worm gear? (Obviously some folks prefer the "clear view" look under the boiler, so I'm just curious. ^^)
