YUS!!! I finally recieved my GED Graduation gift to myself!! XD
This has to be one of my best scores when it comes to finding a great deal! This model retails at somewhere around $245! AND I GOT IT FOR $20!!!!!!
It's actually one of two HO climax locos I recieved. This one is the only one that runs properly. The other was sent to me in unknown condition. It can kinda move forward, but reverse is a whole different story. I think the main reason is because the model has bad trucks. They don't want to work very well. The tend to lock up and I think strain the motor too much. I'll see if I can remedy that.
This inge is far more detailed than expected! Bachmann has completely reproduced how the prototype operated down to a T!! Power is transmitited from the gearbox to the trucks via a drive shaft. It ain't for show, it actually provides the power! The one thing, detail wise, that I found odd is that even the valve gear had been completely reproduced in scale! One problem though... They are hidden by the crosshead shrowding and I don't htink the rocker arms even move. If they do it's not even noticable.
For the HO climax I think it was pointless to have that fine amount of detail. I think that level of detai is better left to larger scale models like On30.
I really don't have any means of testing her performance and pulling power, but I did test run the loco on the island in the kitchen she ran well, just needs some light lubrication. I made a lousy 15 second, soundless, low quality video using my ancient El-Cheapo digital camera. I'll post it on youtube eventually.
She is a nice looking engine. It's almost a shame that I'll be bashing this into an ity-bity 14 Ton Climax loco in On30.
Well, I hope you all enjoy.
