Description

Glover Locomotive Works #4, one of the hand full of Glover build locomotives left in existence. Two other Glover locomotives are preserved in the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History in Kennesaw, GA.

No. 4 is a 3ft narrow gauge, 2-6-0 constructed in 1916 and sold to the Coulbourn Bros. Lumber Company of Suffolk, VA. However in 1923 locomotive was repossessed by the Glover Locomotive Works and stored outside until the early 1990's when it was moved from the old factory compound and restored cosmetically. She was then put on display in a park across the tracks from the Marietta Railway depot, which in fact was once the Western & Atlantic right-of-way.

Now that I've had a little more spare time I've actually been able to go and have some fun on occasion. Me and a friend, the other day, took a short trip to Marietta to see Glover #4 and the depot, as well as the old Kennesaw House Hotel. The very place where Andrews' Raiders spent the night before boarding the train with intent to Hijack the General and train at Big Shanty. Now modern day Kennesaw, GA.

O_O     1916?! Wow, that looks pretty old style for 1916!
