BTMt. 0-4-0 Green Scheme

Description

Well this is the first of two twin locomotives. They are both 0-4-0 Porter type locomotives, the first colored green and the secon painted yellow. This is the first of the two locos delivered to the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad & Mining Co. of Arizona. These locos were among the first locos used by the railroad. It is not specified as to why these Poters were build without the the will known "Saddle Tanks" atop their boiler. But their performance was satisfactory for the railroad's needs.

But as more and more copper deposits were found and new mines being built; the work loads increased dramtically. These locos remained in service but mostly as passenger locos or switchers.

Ok, enough with the fictional history. This is actually the second attempt for this Green Color Scheme. The original was more plain looking. No special striping or livery on the cab or tender, with the acception that on the first attempt I hand drew the locomotive's road name and some detailed "Frill" or decorative lining. It was a nightmare to do that so I left it out.

If the name of the railroad sounds familiar don't seem surprised. Disneyland and Disneyworld have a ride called "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad". It was the main insparation for a future model railroading project along with a ride that used to exist in Disneyland. This former ride was the "Nature's Wonderland Mine Train". Sadly it was torn town in, I think, the late 1960's to make room for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

This is the first of a few concept drawings of some of the locomotives. They will be modeled in On30 scale an this particular loco will be "bashed" from a Bachmann On30 0-4-0 Porter, as will the Yellow version. I hope you all like it because I sure enjoyed drawing it! This loco will be named after my best friend.

Big Thunder so far's closed until Fall 2013 for track restoration, I liked it more when they were 0-4-2's
